Retired UC Davis Math Professor Jim Diederich

Welcome to my math page. I'm Jim Diederich, a retired UC Davis math prof. who has worked with the UC Davis Math Project, UCDMP, for over 3 decades. UCDMP is part of a state-wide effort to work with teachers TK-12 in California on pedagogy and math content. Needless to say, I've learned a great deal about teaching math through working in the UCDMP.

My goal over the next year is to make available the material I have developed and used in the Math Project over many years. Much of the fun I've had in working with teachers came from experimenting, extending, and creating tasks, some suggested by others and some of my own devices. I have found that by just thinking a bit outside the box in confronting a task, it was very possible to ask questions I didn't know the answer to but that I found interesting to explore.

It will be a bit before I post many individual tasks that you can take directly into your classroom as I have to review and create a
preview for each. Nevertheless there a several lengthy items I am posting now that have tasks within them. Each item will have
a separate introduction.

Please note that you are free to copy any of this material for noncommercial use in the classroom or professional development. I
hope you find something interesting here.

Good luck in your teaching endeavors.
